Ivan Ramirez: Ivan is a third year doctoral student in the Department of Geography at Michigan State University. He has a M.A. in Climate and Society from Columbia University and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Hunter College of the City University of New York. Ivan is interested in understanding climate, environment, and society interactions and how health outcomes related to these interactions vary within and across places. He is also interested in understanding population vulnerability and why certain populations or sub-groups of a population are more susceptible to the untoward effects of climatic events. In this respect, he examines the ethical implications of climate-society interactions. His regional study area of interest is northwestern South America. For his dissertation, he is reanalyzing the reemergence of cholera in Peru and its relation to El NiƱo weather and society interactions.
