networking
Networking (or in-reach) refers to activities within the NCAR/UCAR system, as well as outreach to other organizations.
One of the first priorities within CCB has been to assess activities throughout the organization that are actively or potentially multidisciplinary. The assessment canvassed NCAR groups for potential societal linkages, in order to build multidisciplinary capacity within the organization.
CCB will conduct "teach-ins" to identify emerging, as well as neglected, atmospheric science-related issues. We encourage staff to become involved in participating in CCB efforts. Programs and divisions, such as the following, have expressed their early interest in developing CCB collaborations:
DLESE (Digital Library for Earth System Education) is a geoscience community resource that supports teaching and learning about the earth system. DLESE is being built by a community of educators, students, and scientists to erath system education at all levels.
SIP (Societal Impacts Program, or Collaborative Program on the Societal Impacts and Economic Benefits of Weather Information) was created as a focal point for assembling, coordinating, developing, and synthesizing research and information on the societal impacts and economic benefits of weather information.
SOARS (Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science) offers summer research internships to undergraduates exploring a career in an atmospheric science or related field such as biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, engineering, environmental science, mathematics, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or social sciences.
Other inreach activities will involve early career scientists through collaborations within the SERE Lab.
