The Notion

To develop a program which encompasses:

  • the range of climate-related issues from science to policy to economics to ethics
  • climate variability, climate fluctuations, climate change, extreme events and seasonality
  • the interactions among climate variations, human activities and ecological processes

The Purpose

To increase the level of interest for development of a new academic course concentration at graduate and undergraduate levels and at professional education and training centers.

The Long-Term Goal

To develop a multidisciplinary curriculum enabling students as well as faculty to improve their understanding of the relationships among climate, ecosystems and human activities.

The Ultimate Goal

To prepare present and future decision makers to contribute to the increasing number of individual, government and corporate decisions which require a knowledge of climate and climate-related affairs.

   
      The Center for Capacity Building, the Societal-Environmental Research and Education (SERE) Laboratory, and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) are managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
