Climate Economics

Climate Economics deals with economic aspects of climate-related issues. These include socio-economic impacts of climate variability, change and extremes. While societies today are paying most attention to the impacts of extreme meteorological events such as droughts, floods, fires and global warming, there are many important economic issues in need of attention related to seasonal and interannual climate variability and changes in seasonality (e.g., the "hunger" season). Today, there is considerable discussion about the cost and benefits of emission reductions in the context of international treaties, and their impact on local and global economies.
